Arrest Made of the Teen Driver Doing 176 mph on I-5

Early on Wednesday, May 16, morning, a Washington County Sheriff’s officer clocked a 19-year-old speeding 176 mph on Interstate 5 near the Highway 217 interchange southwest of Portland, and he was detained for reckless driving.

According to a press release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was on patrol on Interstate 5 at 12:32 a.m. when they spotted a 2016 BMW M3 traveling south on the road at an exceptionally high speed.

The deputy used a Lidar, a gadget for monitoring speed, and determined that the automobile traveled 176 miles per hour. The deputy called dispatch, described the vehicle, and asked for backup from other deputies, the sheriff’s office said.

A second deputy, stationed further south on Interstate 5 near the Nyberg Street interchange, saw the BMW get off at the exit. To prevent the teenager from leaving, the two deputies chased after him and blocked the exit ramp with his car.

According to WCSO, Schneider cooperated with law enforcement and disclosed during the inquiry that he checked his speedometer at one time, which read 183 mph. As time went on, he was incarcerated in Washington County.
