A hawk in Texas accidentally dropped a snake on a woman, who both the snake and the hawk attacked simultaneously. Last month, Peggy Jones, 64, mowed her lawn when a passing hawk dumped a snake on her before diving to collect its prey.
The bird dug its talons deep into her flesh as the snake curled around her arm and started slapping at her face. She suffered scrapes and bruises to her arm and face due to the horrific experience.
The strange incident happened on July 25 in the Texas hamlet of Silsbee, close to the Louisiana border. It started when a snake unexpectedly descended from the sky and touched her. The hawk attack started before she could get rid of it.
“As I was trying to sling my arm and sling the snake off, the snake wrapped around my arm,” she told.

“The snake was striking in my face, it struck my glasses a couple of times… I was slinging and slinging, he was striking and striking, and he just kept hanging on.”
Since she was not standing beneath any trees at the time, she realized that it must have been a passing bird that dropped it. When the hawk descended and entered the fray, her suspicion was swiftly verified.
“Then the hawk appeared just as fast as the snake appeared,” Mrs Jones said.
“The hawk grabbed the snake that was wrapped around my arm and pulled it like he was going to carry it away. And when he did, it flung my arm up. The hawk was carrying my arm and the snake with it.”
Woman Hospitalized After Hawk Battle
The hawk battled to get the snake off of Mrs. Jones’ body while repeatedly stabbing her with its talons in an effort to get its food back. After the snake was eventually removed from her arm, her horrified husband had to take her to the hospital.
“There were puncture wounds, cuts, abrasions, scratches and severe bruising,” she said, adding that the snake’s attacks to her face damaged her glasses.
Mrs. Jones called the attack extremely traumatic and said that ever since it happened, she has had difficulties falling asleep. She also said that she believed she was going to die. She informed CBS that because she lives in remote Texas, she had encountered wildlife before.
“I’ve actually seen a hawk pick up a snake. That’s something they do, that’s how they kill their prey,” she said. But she claims that going forward, she will always remember this.
