On Monday, May 29, the Oregon National Guard participated in several Memorial Day ceremonies nationwide.

Governor Tina Kotek, U.S. Representative Suzanne Bonamici, Beaverton Mayor Lacey Beaty, and Oregon Air National Guard Colonel Todd Hofford, 142nd Wing Commander, were among the dignitaries that showed out for the American Legion Post 124 ceremony at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Beaverton.
Governor Kotek said, “My father served our country in the Army in Korea, and his service shaped my admiration and respect for those who serve and the families that stand by them.”
Today across our great state, across our great nation, people are gathering to remember loved ones who were lost and honoring the bravery of our fallen service members.”
“Every time – I was caught up by these life stories of young Oregonians who went into the bigger world for their country and never returned. They are Oregon – and I will not forget their stories,” Kotek added.
Oregon Senator Ron Wyden addressed a crowd at the Willamette National Cemetery in Clackamas. Winston Churchill is rumored to have said something like, “The Americans always get it right after they’ve tried everything else” during World War II. A Joint Service Honor Guard and other Oregon-based military personnel accompanied the Senator to the gravesite.

The Oregon Army National Guard held a flag folding ceremony in Medford for the family of a military member who had died in the line of duty.
Memory Gardens Memorial Park was the site of the celebration. The 142nd Wing and 173rd Fighter Wing of the Oregon Air National Guard performed patriotic flyovers at events in more than a dozen cities and communities.
