Homicide Inquiry Launched After Man Shot in Southwest DC

An early Thursday, May 25,Β morning shooting in a Southwest alley resulted in the death of a man, prompting police to launch a homicide investigation.

After receiving a report at 1:30 in the morning, MPD officers headed to Forrester Street Southwest, just off Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue Southwest. Someone had called to report a possible victim of gunfire nearby.

A man was located in an alley with a gunshot wound to the head when police arrived. DC Fire and EMS personnel also arrived and attempted CPR on the individual, but he was pronounced dead.

No details, including suspected suspects or motivations, have been revealed by authorities. This probe is still in progress. As of May 24, 2023, 88 killings have been reported in the District, according to MPD data. There were 79 homicides reported in the same period a year ago. Thus, this is an increase of 11%.
