110Β°F Days in Phoenix A Record-Setting Streak

Phoenix broke the previous record of 18 days established in June 1974 with 31 days straight of temperatures over 110 degrees on Sunday.

Official Tweet posted by NWS Phoenix:

But the streak might come to an end on Monday before reaching a full month of record-breaking highs. Even though temperatures have been gradually dropping from highs of 119 degrees two weeks ago, the anticipated high for Sunday at Phoenix Sky Harbor was 110 degrees.

Heat Wave Could Finally Break

Phoenix locals woke up to 95 degrees in the morning, so there was no relief from the hot weather. It will be another day with a record-breaking high and low temperature if this lasts until midnight. In 2014, 92 degrees set the previous high-low temperature record for this day.

“We’re watching for some potential monsoon activity across the Phoenix area tonight. We’ll also be looking at some additional chances tomorrow,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Isaac Smith. “That will certainly help with our temperatures and cooling us off a little bit.”

60% of the Valley may experience showers and thunderstorms this evening and overnight, and those chances are predicted to increase dramatically over the next two days, lasting through Tuesday. The greatest chance of storms on Monday night is a 70% chance.

As Monday’s high is predicted to be 105 degrees, these storms should result in a sharp drop in temperature, ending Phoenix’s run of 110-degree days. Tuesday’s peak temperature of 105 degrees continued the unseasonably high temperatures.

Despite the rainy respite, evening lows are still expected to stay over 90 degrees, with a slight chance of falling into the high 80s.

After the storms pass around mid-week, the temperature will soar again up to a predicted high of 110 degrees on Wednesday. As the week progresses, the temperature will rise steadily until it reaches highs of 115 degrees once more during the weekend.
