Salix Heisinger, age 5, wandered off his family’s Washington County property and into the forests on Tuesday night (27 June).
Heisinger said –
“I was pretty scared.”
His family, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and Search and Rescue commenced a search of the area. The family subsequently discovered that their dog, Rue Bear, had also vanished.
The boy’s mother, Katrina Dallas stated –
“It was a very helpless time to feel like I couldn’t go out and find him.”
Heisinger stated that he and Rue Bear sat down in some foliage to await assistance. The dog ultimately assisted Search and Rescue in locating the child.
Dallas said –
“They heard Rue Bear and Salix yelling for help.”
Do you realize that hundreds of bills are awaiting Governor Tina Kotek’s final signature on her desk? Due to the conclusion of the legislative session, she has less than thirty days to evaluate the measures:
Washington County Search and Rescue stated that without the assistance of the dog, the rescue would have been much more challenging.
Dallas stated –
“She barked until they found Salix and then she went home like, ‘My job here is done.'”
Now that Heisinger has returned home safely, he has only a scratch to remind him of his voyage.
She said –
“When he got back and was sitting in the back of the ambulance, that dog was right there.”
Dallas is appreciative of the young Australian Shepard, but she is keeping a close watch on her daring son.
