According to the Portland Police Bureau, the corpse of a missing Gresham woman was discovered in a forested area in the Pleasant Valley district of Southeast Portland. Kristin Smith, a lady of 22 years of age, went missing on December 22, 2022.

On February 19, police were called to the woods outside of Southeast Deardorff Road and Southeast Flavel Street in the Pleasant Valley Neighborhood on a complaint of human remains. According to PPB, it was determined that the body was indeed that of Smith. We have informed her relatives.
Authorities said that Multnomah County Search and Rescue and the Multnomah County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted additional searches months after Smith’s remains were discovered to unearth new evidence.
The authorities are still treating this as a death investigation for the time being. PPB did not specify in their statement whether they consider Smith’s death to be suspicious or not. The Portland Police Bureau and the Office of the Medical Examiner are still investigating what happened.
