NE Portland 7-Eleven Customers and the Store Clerk Corner an Armed Robber

According to police, the customers and clerk of a Northeast Portland convenience store foiled an armed robbery on Sunday (2 July) by seizing the suspect’s pistol and subduing him until officers arrived. Officers were dispatched to the 7-Eleven on Northeast 82nd and Sandy at around midnight on Sunday after complaints of a robbery, as reported by the Portland Police Bureau.

The agency said –

“The initial call said that the clerk and customers were fighting with the suspect inside the store and a shot had been fired.”

When officers arrived, the robbery suspect’s face was covered in blood. Additionally, two patrons had been injured during the struggle. The store clerk secured the suspect’s firearm. Initial PPB investigation revealed that the suspect entered the store, drew a revolver, and declared his intent to rob the store and its customers.

Customers and Clerk Capture Armed Robbery Suspect

Do you know that the driver of a gold minivan was arrested for felony hit-and-run on Monday, July 3, after he struck another car, slammed into a retaining wall, and overturned the vehicle, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office:

Two customers decided to fight instead, grabbing the suspect’s pistol and pinning him to the ground. During the conflict, the revolver discharged. According to Portland police, no one was struck by the stray bullet. With assistance from traffic officers, K-9 units, and air support, members of the PPB’s Major Crimes Unit and forensic technicians responded to the site.

The suspect, identified by PPB as Daniel Israel Jones, 40, of Portland, was transported to a hospital for injuries sustained during the struggle. After his discharge from the hospital, he was questioned by detectives before being booked into jail. In addition to the attempted robbery on Sunday, Jones has also been charged in connection with a robbery that occurred on July 1 at a 7-Eleven at Southeast 92nd and Stark.

He is charged with four counts of first-degree larceny, four counts of unlawful use of a weapon, four counts of menacing, and possession of a firearm by a felon. According to Portland police, the tarnished, gripless revolver found at the crime scene was reported stolen out of Washington in 1996.
