Officials Investigating Cause of Gas Line Explosion on I-81

According to county officials, a suspected gas line explosion caused a portion of Interstate 81 in Strasburg to catch fire this morning. Around 8:30 am on July 25, a gas pipe exploded close to Battlefield Road and Copp Road, according to the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office.

The area is seeing brush fires, according to the sheriff’s office, but the fire has been contained. No structures were impacted, and no injuries have been reported to the office. As units reacted to the incident, all lanes in both the northbound and southbound directions were temporarily shut down.

The tweet below verifies the news:

The sheriff’s office said that there were evacuations at the time of the explosion, but everyone is now free to go back to their homes. The explosion sounded like a jet engine, according to Hunter Sellers, who witnessed it while traveling with his two young kids inside the vehicle. The flames were also fairly close to the road.

Have a look at our other article:

“At first, it was a routine trip with no traffic. Then, within a flash, flames fly at least 50 feet into the air, followed by a mushroom cloud,” according to Sellers. Authorities are still attempting to determine what caused the explosion even though no injuries or property damage have been reported.
