Anne Hecheβs Biography
On May 25, 1969, Anne Celeste Heche the youngest of Donald “Don” Joe Heche and Nancy Heche’s five childrenβwas born in Aurora, Ohio. (born Prickett). During her early years, the Heche family lived in several Ohio locations, including the Cleveland and Akron suburbs.
Heche’s parents were devout Christians who were her in a highly religious environment; she subsequently likened it to being “raised in a cult.” Don, her father, too had a real ability for singing and was employed as a choir director in several churches, but he also led a wild life, changing jobs regularly and falling for schemes to get rich quickly.
According to Heche’s memoir, her father’s job in the church frequently dictated the changes in her family’s affiliations. In March 1983, Anne’s father, who was forty-five, lost his life to AIDS. Heche claims that from the time she was a newborn until the age of twelve, her father raped her and gave her genital herpes.
Three months after Donald’s death, Anne lost her brother Nathan, who was eighteen. Nathan allegedly fell asleep at the wheel and ran into a tree. Later, the family relocated to Chicago, where Heche started attending the Francis W. Parker School.
When Anne was sixteen years old, an agent saw her in a school play and encouraged her to try out for the soap opera “As the World Turns.” It was Heche’s mother’s preference that her daughter finish high school before taking the job offer. She received offers to play Marley Love and Vicky Hudson on “Another World” before she graduated in 1987.

When Heche was being carried from the scene of the accident and placed on a stretcher, she was spotted fighting with the firefighters. Soon afterward, she fainted. Heche received emergency treatment at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center before being transferred to West Hills Hospital’s Grossman Burn Center for specialized burn center care.
Heche’s representative announced on August 8 that the actress was in a coma, suffering from severe illness, and required medical attention for lung injuries sustained in an accident. The spokesperson went on to say that previous reports that stated Heche was in a “stable condition” were “inaccurate.”

Heche was declared brain dead a few hours later, but to discover organ recipients and assess the viability of organ donors, she was maintained on life support. Heche was at the time considered legally dead under California law.
August 14 saw the announcement that a body donor would be part of the operation that day to seek an organ donor. In commemoration of Heche’s organ donation, hospital staff members participated in an honor walk. That evening, her publicist announced that she had been “peacefully taken off life support.”
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s office ruled her death an accident, noting “inhalation and thermal injuries” as the cause of death and “sternal fracture owing to blunt trauma” as an “other important condition.” Hollywood Forever Cemetery was to house Heche’s cremated remains in a mausoleum on May 14, 2023.
