The suspect accused of killing a Rutland City Police officer and injuring two others during a police chase in Rutland on Friday afternoon has been charged with numerous crimes.
Tate Rheaume, 20, was accused by the state’s attorney for Rutland County of attempting to evade fatal consequences and operating a motor vehicle with gross negligence that caused death.
Around 2:50 on Friday, the Vermont State Police reported that Rheaume was trying to break into a house on East Washington Street.
Numerous police units arrived, but Rheaume managed to escape in his car, starting a chase.
Rheaume crossed the center line on Woodstock Avenue and struck a cruiser being driven by Officer Jessica Ebbighausen head-on while at least two cruisers of the Rutland City Police were following Rheaume.
