On Friday, July 7, 2023, the investigation into a missing 3-year-old boy took a sad turn.
Medical examiners positively recognized the body as that of three-year-old Israel Powell after it was discovered in the lake, according to SCSO.
A body was retrieved from Jamieson Lake, according to deputies with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), near East Holmes Road and Hacks Cross Road.
According to SCSO, it is where Israel Powell, 3, and his sister, 4, were last seen at one in the morning.
Only the young child was there when deputies arrived, and SCSO reports that she was brought to the hospital.

Unaware that her daughter was already in the hospital, the mother of the missing children called the sheriff’s office at around five in the morning, according to deputies.
As authorities combed the area and concentrated on the area near the lake on Friday morning and afternoon, FOX13 was on the scene.
That corpse was found and pulled from the lake at around 1 p.m., according to SCSO.
