Reina Gabriela Jackson Ex-wife of Murdered Oregon Doctor Charged Years After His Death

After nearly two years on the run, the Guatemalan ex-wife of an Oregon man has been apprehended and charged with his murder.

Reina Gabriela Jackson, also known as Reina Gabriela Matute-Ruano, was charged with second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the August 2021 homicide of her ex-husband, Dr. Craig Jackson, by a Coos County grand jury in May.

Local news reports that authorities believe two other unidentified males were also involved in Jackson’s murder. Coos County Sheriff Gabe Fabrizio said in a statement –

“I was informed in the evening of June 14, 2023, that Reina Jackson was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in Atlanta, Georgia, earlier that evening. Apparently, Ms. Jackson, unaware of the arrest warrant, had decided to return to the United States for some reason and was arrested when she entered the country on June 14, 2023.”

Do you know that West Linn police have launched a homicide investigation into the death of a 45-year-old woman discovered in the Cascade Summit Apartment complex on Tuesday (20 June)? The West Linn Police Department said that a spouse was arrested Tuesday night after authorities found his wife deceased in their residence:

Jackson died from a gunshot wound to the head. He was a general practitioner, according to a local news station. Coos County District Attorney Paul Frasier told the local outlet that authorities believe two additional unidentified male attackers were involved in Jackson’s homicide. On the morning of August 2, 2021, the assailants purportedly entered Jackson’s North Bend residence and killed him.

Frasier said –

“We believe that there were three people involved in the death of Dr. Jackson. We believe Reina Jackson is obviously one of those participants in the death. The other two are male individuals, and we’ve not been able to identify who they are at this point.”

The DA also stated that the couple had recently divorced. Authorities believe Reina Jackson fled to her native Guatemala following Jackson’s murder, and they issued an arrest warrant for her after the grand jury returned its indictment.

She was also apprehended for allegedly violating the terms of her probation for a charge of first-degree burglary, for which a warrant had been out since 2021. Reina Jackson was arrested in Georgia and is presently being held in an Atlanta jail.
