A new grand jury that could ultimately determine whether to accept charges against former President Donald Trump is being appointed by the prosecutor in the Atlanta area who is looking into attempts to rig the Georgia 2020 presidential election.
In a courthouse close to Atlanta, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis met with potential jurors on Tuesday. She is investigating whether Trump and his allies’ contacts with state officials in late 2020 constituted criminal behavior.

Trump’s Election Fate Hangs in the Balance
Willis openly hinted in April that possible charges would be filed as early as this summer.
The now-famous Jan. 2, 2021 phone call Trump made to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, in which Trump begged Raffensperger to “find 11,780 votes,” the precise amount Trump needed to win Georgia, served as a catalyst for Willis to formally open the investigation in February 2021.
Trump has criticized the inquiry and has frequently defended his “perfect” phone call to Raffensperger.

The final report of a prior Willis-appointed special grand jury stated in January that “by a unanimous vote, no widespread fraud took place in the Georgia 2020 presidential election that could result in overturning that election.”
The sole recommendation-making authority granted to that grand jury was in relation to criminal proceedings; it was not authorized to issue an indictment.
No specifics about any of these suggestions were included in the portion of their report that was made public, other than the advice to prosecute witnesses who they think may have lied while testifying.
