With rose petals, champagne, and a ring he made himself, Young proposed to Mills in February 2018 at the Graduate Hotel in Oxford, Mississippi, home of his alma university Ole Miss.
The wedding took place later that year at the Bighorn Golf Club in Palm Desert, California, in front of 200 guests. Young’s father, a minister, and Young’s manager and best man, Van Hazelitt, presided over the ceremony. Tears were poured by all, but Young’s were the most plentiful as he read his commitment to his wife of ten years.

A unique arrangement of “Forever Young,” created by Young’s longtime friend Dan Huff, played during the newlyweds’ first dance after the ceremony. Additionally, the celebration featured performances by Gavin DeGraw, Lee Brice, and Luke Combs.
However, Mills disclosed in an Instagram post just after their first wedding anniversary that the couple had secretly eloped and tied the knot three months before to the wedding that was widely reported.
The couple supposedly strolled from their homes in Nashville to the Rhinestone Wedding Chapel, where a nice, small man performed the ceremony while Brett was home from the road. As they walked out of the church together, they saw the poster honoring Brett’s number one song, “Mercy,” hanging on the wall immediately outside.
