According to NBC station WPTV, the family of a woman who died from kratom on Wednesday received $11 million in compensation for the wrongful death.
On June 20, 2021, Krystal Talavera, 39, passed away. Talavera was a Boynton Beach resident and a mother of four.
The final default judgment for the mother’s passing was given by West Palm Beach Circuit Judge Donald Middlebrooks against Grow, LLC and Sean Michael Harder, the proprietor of The Kratom Distro.
Just about $4.6 million was given to the family for Talavera’s estate, $1 million went to her surviving son Devin Filippelli, and $2 million went to her other three kids.
According to the TV station, Benny Flores, Talavera’s ex-husband, spoke of the suffering his ex-wife’s two young sons are experiencing, particularly the six-year-old who keeps asking when his mother would return.
Their 14-month-old kid was playing next to Talavera when her most recent companion, youngest son’s father Biaggio Vultaggio, discovered her on the living room floor.
The mother was sent to a local hospital where doctors declared her dead.
Grow LLC reportedly sold its kratom products carelessly.
The $11 million verdict “should be a wake-up call to the kratom industry about this dangerous and unregulated substance.” Families all around the nation are aware firsthand that kratom is addictive and dangerous.
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, kratom is a natural medication that is frequently used to treat pain and lessen the symptoms of mental health disorders like anxiety and depression.
The Food and Drug Administration does not have any regulations on kratom.
