On Wednesday, Portland Police made public their official account of the incidents leading up to the weekend shooting that killed a security guard and the suspect. On Saturday, a shooting took place in the birthing facility on the fifth floor of the Legacy Good Samaritan Medical facility.

Police shortened their timeline to what they believe to be the key events, beginning with the 911 call and ending with the officer-involved shooting in Gresham, despite the fact that they said the whole dispatch log was over 120 pages long.
- 911 call for a threat at 10:55.
- 10:59 A sergeant and two cops are sent to Legacy Good Samaritan. At the time, hospital security was with a male who was “making physical threats to staff,” according to the information officers. Security gave a sketchy account of the suspect.

- 11:26 Security footage that showed the suspect leaving the hospital eight minutes earlier was examined by hospital security. This indicates that he left the hospital around 11:18 a.m.
- 11:29 A bystander flags down a police officer and reports that a potential suspect may have entered the Burnside Fred Meyer.
- 11:31 As resources are directed toward Fred Meyer, police broadcast that the structure is being evacuated.
- 11:35 After reviewing the CCTV footage from the hospital, police were able to improve their descriptions of the perpetrator and the clothes he was wearing. All personnel of the Bureau are also given access to images from the security footage.

The sergeant arrives at one site around Northeast 138th Avenue and Northeast Sandy Boulevard and discovers a person like the suspect hidden in some bushes. He starts announcing this information on the radio and asking for help to confront the probably armed murder suspect.
The sergeant observes the suspect board what seems to be a white Ford van or ambulance and sit in the passenger seat. The van moves away. The vehicle is followed by the sergeant, who provides updates until it eventually comes to a stop in Gresham near Northeast 181st Avenue and Northeast Everett Court.
