Portland Police Detains A Suspect In Armed Robbery Case After Standoff

After a battle in a North Portland neighbourhood Tuesday morning, police caught a person suspected of armed robbery.

Just before 5:30 a.m., the suspect robbed at least four people along Interstate Avenue while they were armed. During one of the thefts, the suspect is said to have fired several times from a handgun. Everyone was safe.

Police say that during another robbery, the defendant hurt several people. One person was injured and taken to the hospital. They are expected to be okay.

People in the Overlook neighbourhood were told to stay in place while police were looking for the armed suspect.

The Crisis Negotiation and Special Emergency Response teams visited the area. A barrier was set up from North Colonial to North Concord and North Going Court to North Blandena Street.

Around 8:30 a.m., cops said that the suspect had been caught. So far, the suspect’s name has not been made public.

From I-5, North Going Street will be closed while cops are there. Drivers are asked to take different routes. Beach Elementary, which is close by, is running two hours late.
