With the end of the school year comes the beginning of the deadliest time of year for young drivers: the summer months.
Statistics show that summer is the most perilous period for teenagers to be out on the roads.
There is a spike in adolescent accident rates during the 100 days spanning Memorial Day and Labor Day. Since adolescents are on the road at all hours now that school is out, they are more likely to engage in dangerous practices like speeding and texting while driving.
βThey cannot let go of their mobile devices. A big distraction is their cell phones in their hand. They always want to show off nowadays on social media,β said Al Cediel, the owner and instructor at Alfa Driving School.

According to AAA, car accidents are the biggest cause of death among 16- to 19-year-olds. Teen drivers between the ages of 16 and 17 have three times the risk of being in a fatal crash per mile driven compared to adults.
βI always recommend training. obey the restrictions of your license. teen drivers have restrictions on their license that they cannot drive between midnight and 5 am. and the first six months they have their license, they cannot have any passengers besides their family,β said Cediel.
In Georgia, there are an average of 89 juvenile driver fatalities per year, with 25 of those occurring on the 100 Deadliest Days. There are an average of 96 fatalities per year due to these collisions, with 28 of those occurring on the 100 Deadliest Days.
Together, Consumer Reports and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety researched and suggested safer automobiles for new adolescent drivers. Vehicles like the 2015+ Toyota RAV4, 2015+ Honda CRV, and the 2013+ Prius are all highly suggested.
All of the mentioned vehicles provide driver protection in crash tests and feature accident-averting electronic stability control. The new cars on the list fared well too, largely due to the intuitive design of their controls.

We aimed to compile a set of recommendations that provided a good measure of security and dependability. “We also made an effort to select vehicles that were within most people’s price ranges,” said David Zuby, the IIHS’s chief research officer.
βBeing a first-year driver, you never know whatβs going to happen. Their lack of experience is always an issue,β said Pat Georgides, father of a teen driver.
