Ten People Were Displaced by Fire at an Elderly Care Facility

Firefighters from all across Clark County spent Tuesday, May 30, morning putting out a blaze at an ad*lt care home, but everyone evacuated safely, according to authorities.

Several fire departments were dispatched to the burning structure on Northeast Ireland Road at 4 a.m., including East County Fire & Rescue, the Vancouver Fire Department, Clark County District 3, and Skamania District 4. East County Fire & Rescue Chief Ed Hartin said, β€œThe first engine company arrived to find a substantial amount of fire involvement.” They went to work to try to cut the fire off.”

Crews arrived to find that all ten residents had been safely evacuated, and no injuries had been recorded. Crews reported relying on water tenders to put out the fire because of water supply issues. Twenty-five firefighters were dispatched to the scene.

However, the building only partially survived the firefight. Hartin has declared the structure a total loss and warned that it may collapse. Hartin remarked, “It’s fortunate the weather is temperate.” The Clark County Fire Marshal is investigating the incident to determine the cause.
