5 People Shot, 2 De@d At Cockfight in Honolulu

Five people got into an argument at a late-night cockfight in Honolulu on Friday, 14 April 2023 and shot two people, cops said.

Honolulu police were called about shots being fired just after midnight on Friday. On Saturday, 15 April 2023, KHON-TV said they were looking for a man in his 20s who they think shot the other people at the event.

Honolulu Police Department Lt. Deena Thoemmes told KHON, “At the end of the fight, a group of men started arguing, which turned into a physical fight.

KHON said that police said a 59-year-old woman and a 34-year-old guy died when they got to the hospital.

KHON said that three men, ages 38, 40, and 57, were shot but were treated and sent home from the hospital. Police said it wasn’t clear right away what led to the k!lling.

Thoemmes told KHON, “I don’t know what happened here. It could have been about something else, and they just happened to be in the same place at the same time.”

The Associated Press sent an email to the city of Honolulu asking for more details, but the city did not reply right away.

All 50 states have laws against cockfighting, but it still happens in some, like Hawaii, where fights can draw hundreds of people.

Recently, Alabama police asked people to come forward with information about a shooting at a teen’s birthday party that k!lled four people and hurt 28 others on Sunday.
