Tim Wakefield, a great player for the Boston Red Sox, has died. He was 57 years old. Last week, on Curt Schilling’s show, a brain tumor was said to be the cause of his death. Just a few days later, Wakefield died of the same thing.
Tim Wakefield was known for his unusual way of throwing, which he showed off by using the knuckleball a lot. It’s not a usual strategy, but Wakefield used it very well. He had been out of baseball for less than 25 years when he was told he had brain cancer.

John Henry, owner of the Red Sox, said:
“Tim’s kindness and indomitable spirit were as legendary as his knuckleball. He not only captivated us on the field but was the rare athlete whose legacy extended beyond the record books to the countless lives he touched with his warmth and genuine spirit.”
He continued:
“He had a remarkable ability to uplift, inspire, and connect with others in a way that showed us the true definition of greatness. He embodied the very best of what it means to be a member of the Boston Red Sox and his loss is felt deeply by all of us.”
The Red Sox starter was once an All-Star and won the World Series. When the New York Yankees came back to beat them 3-0, it seemed impossible, but it was because he switched to a substitute role.
Tim Wakefield Cause of Death
The Boston Red Sox suffered a devastating loss. Curt Schilling just recently made news of Tim Wakefield’s cancer in a questionable way. The former ace said he wasn’t sure if he was supposed to tell the news or not.
Even so, it looks like it was a good thing. The cancer was thought to be aggressive and very dangerous, and now, just four days later, it has killed him. Wakefield was very popular in Boston, and people will miss him very much.
The Red Sox will probably remember him next year, since today is the end of their regular season and they won’t play again until next year. They didn’t make it to the playoffs.
