From 2005-2016, Vincent Jackson, a wide receiver with the San Diego Chargers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, appeared to have it made in the NFL.
During his seven years with the Chargers, quarterback Philip Rivers frequently targeted wide receiver Vincent Jackson.
The player, affectionately known by his teammates as “V-Jax,” had three Pro Bowl selections and multiple seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards.
Jackson, who rarely made headlines, had already planned for retirement from football by the time that he finally made the transition in 2018.
He was an aspiring businessman who founded a number of eateries and a charity to aid the families of servicemen and women. The people of Tampa praised him for his charitable work when he retired from the NFL.
Vincent Jackson’s untimely death at age 38 is attributed to his long-term alcoholism.
However, his legacy lives on and has influenced countless football fans.
Vincent Jackson Cause of Death
Former NFL standout Vincent Jackson, 38, passed away in February 2021, from complications related to chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), according to his family. The results of the autopsy were made public.
The medical examiner for Hillsborough County (Florida) concluded that Jackson’s death was caused by his long-term alcoholism. Alcoholic cardiomyopathy, hepatic steatosis and fibrosis, esophageal varices, ascites, jaundice, distant pancreatitis, renal failure, hyponatremia, cardiovascular illness, and intoxication by ethyl alcohol were all apparently present at the autopsy, as reported by ESPN. The medical examiner reported that his BAC was 0.28%.
The family of former Bucs receiver Vincent Jackson announced today that Jackson, who died at age 38 in February, was diagnosed by brain researchers as having stage 2 CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy). His family is sharing to help raise public awareness for CTE.

After his passing, CTE was identified by researchers at Boston University. Jackson’s final months reportedly had depressive episodes, memory loss, and paranoia, all of which are symptoms of his brain disease.
Jackson, a second-round draft pick from Northern Colorado, had a successful NFL career with the Chargers and the Buccaneers.
He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2009, 2011, and 2012. In total, he caught 540 passes for 9,080 yards and 57 touchdowns during his career.

Even in his passing, I know he would want to continue that same legacy,β Jackson’s widow Lindsey JacksonΒ said in a statementΒ after the CTE diagnosis. βBy donating his brain to the VA-BU-CLF Brain Bank, we hope to continue to see advancements in CTE research, enabling physicians to diagnose the disease in the living and ultimately find treatment options in the future.”
Jackson checked into a motel on January 11 and was found alone in his room in February of last year. His loved ones thought he had gone missing, but two days later they discovered him at the hotel. Jackson’s body was found in the room three days after authorities declared the missing persons case closed.

On February 11th, a formal report was submitted.
The Homewood Suites is where HCSO met with Jackson the next day, February 12.
Jackson’s “well-being was assessed, and the missing persons case was canceled,” the police stated.
According to the Facebook post, the sports star’s body was discovered by a hotel cleaner at “about 11.30am on February 15.”

Vincent Jackson: A Family Man and a Football Star
On January 14, 1983, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Vincent Terrell Jackson was born to parents Terence and Sherry Jackson.
Terence Jackson served for 21 years in the military, as stated on his foundation’s website. There, he wooed his future wife, Sherry.
When Jackson was a kid, he looked up to his parents. When he was a kid, he didn’t root for any one NFL team.
Jackson told UNC Magazine in 2005, “I can’t tell you anyone I look up to or want to be like because I’ve never been a big sports fanatic.”
Despite Jackson’s lack of interest in sports, he took to them early on in life. His father Terence and him took first place in various father-son running events. While out on those runs, Vincent observed his father’s tireless work ethic.
According to Kyle Fredrickson of The Denver Post, Jackson’s formative years were spent in a nomadic lifestyle due to his family’s military service. Jackson spent time as a child on military posts in Louisiana, Arizona, Germany, and Colorado.
Vincent Jackson was an avid soccer player during his family’s three-year sojourn in Germany. Around that time, Terence Jackson began to recognize his son’s talent in sports.
Despite Jackson’s nomadic upbringing, Colorado Springs remained his permanent residence.
In his hometown of Widefield, Texas, Vincent Jackson went to high school. For the Widefield Gladiators, he was a three-sport star.
According to Sean Keeler of The Denver Post, Jackson was a 5’5β²β² high school freshman who made waves for his prowess on the track.
In the following three years, he added 11 inches to his height and developed into a formidable athlete. Jackson also had the intelligence to go along with his brawn, as evidenced by the fact that he had a perfect 4.0 grade point average and finished third in his high school class.
Jackson earned offers from the Northern Colorado Bears of the collegiate PAC-12 and the Columbia Lions of the collegiate Ivy League.
The Lions were unable to provide Jackson with a scholarship opportunity. Jackson had no interest in making a living as a professional athlete, but he couldn’t turn down the money he’d make playing for the Bears football team.
In 2018, Jackson said to The Denver Post that the rest of his needed financial aid could be earned through academics.
Earnest Collins, an assistant football coach at Northern Colorado, played a role in Jackson’s recruitment. Collins, according to UNC Magazine, first saw Jackson’s potential when he was showing off his skills on the high school basketball floor.
Vincent Jackson had no idea his exceptional play in Northern Colorado would pave the road for his later success in the NFL.
