The release of the iPhone 15 is near. Apple has released new iPhones annually in September, usually following a media event, and we don’t anticipate any changes this year. When Does the iPhone 15 Come Out?
Apple’s regular fall release calendar suggests that the iPhone 15 series will be unveiled in September. According to a recent tweet by Bloomberg writer Mark Gurman, the event could take place on September 12. If that’s the case, then expect pre-orders to begin the following Friday, September 15, and widespread release the following Friday, September 22.

The top-tier iPhone 15 Pro Max, which may be renamed the iPhone 15 Ultra, may not be released until a later date. According to 9to5Mac, which cites a “major equity analyst note,” Sony may be unable to produce enough of an image sensor in time, delaying the release of the Pro Max/Ultra by three to four weeks. Launch dates between October 6 and 13 are possible.
iPhone 15 to Replace Lightning Port with USB-C
The iPhone 15 models are predicted to appear like the iPhone 14 models, with the addition of the pill-and-hole cutout across the board. This indicates that the Dynamic Island feature, first seen on the iPhone 14 Pro, will be implemented across all iPhone 15 models.
Apple will maintain its current lineup of four iPhone models, including the 6.1-inch iPhone 15, the 6.1-inch iPhone 15 Pro, the 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Max, and the 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Pro Max, since no significant design changes are expected. The “pro” variants, with their more advanced capabilities, will cost more, while the regular iPhone 15 will be more reasonably priced.
The USB-C port will replace the Lightning port, and the notch will be replaced by the Dynamic Island in the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. While the Dynamic Island debuted with the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, the USB-C connector will be standard on all future iPhone models.
In addition to the Dynamic Island, all iPhone 15 models may include a more efficient OLED display driver chip made using a 28nm manufacturing process. This might result in reduced power usage and longer battery life.
Despite the switch to the Dynamic Island, the base variants of the iPhone 15 will not contain ProMotion or always on display technologies. Apple will still only provide them on the more expensive Pro models.
Apple to Unveil New Products at September Event
The iPhone 15 will undoubtedly steal the show at Apple’s September 2023 presentation, but it won’t be the only new product introduced.
The Series 9 and Ultra 2 versions of the Apple Watch are expected to be introduced soon. Apple’s commitment to seamless ecosystem integration suggests that the AirPods Pro may also be updated with USB-C connectivity in preparation for the iPhone 15.
Speculation persists that Apple will refresh the iPad mini and the iMac 24 inches. There’s talk that Apple may unveil a 27-inch iMac Pro. These releases, however, are less definite and may be delayed until 2024.
