On Thursday, the evacuation order for residents of Salem, Oregon, which was in effect due to the threat of a wildfire, was lifted.
Air crews were able to put out the fire around 7:15 p.m., according to a joint statement from the Salem Fire Department and Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
They said fire patrols would stay in the region throughout the evening on Friday to monitor the terrain. “We have received an update the evacuation notice has been lifted, and residents can return home,” they stated.
On social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, the Marion County Sheriff sent two messages on Wednesday: “GO NOW – Evacuate immediately!” and “Leave without delay. Staying here puts you and your family’s safety in danger.

Deputies were knocking on doors to alert residents to the fire, and the Oregon State Fire Marshall was deploying fixed-wing tankers, an air assault platform, and a helicopter to combat the blaze.
According to the state fire marshal, the fire had consumed at least 10 acres (4 hectares), the Statesman Journal reported on Wednesday.
In the northwest U.S. state of Oregon, Salem has a population of 180,000 people and is about 50 miles (80 km) south of Portland.
The fire was close to the boundary between densely inhabited regions and open space south of the city limits.
