The D.C. area could experience temperatures as high as 100 degrees this week, and the rain isn’t stopping either. Storms from the summer are moving into the Washington, D.C., area, posing a risk of strong gusts and huge hail. What you should know is as follows.
The National Weather Service warned that strong gusts could topple some trees and huge branches. Watch out for the potential for hail and winds of 60 mph, warned WTOP meteorologist Mike Stinneford.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, ground stops were also in effect at Dulles International, BWI Marshall, and Reagan National airports until 9 p.m. Tuesday.

According to NWS, storms that formed might deliver ping-pong-sized hail in isolated instances and severe winds of 70 mph. The meteorological agency warned that near rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying regions, flash flooding is probable.
Turn around; don’t drown if you come across flooded roads. Around two in the morning on Wednesday, Newport News’ flood warnings for eastern Virginia were lifted.

Around 1 p.m. on Tuesday, a strangely shaped storm cloud appeared over Washington, D.C., and the Capitol dome. Technically, it was a mid-level funnel cloud, which is frequently found close to building storms.
A hot weather emergency that will endure from Wednesday through Sunday follows the stormy, humid Tuesday. Tuesday at noon, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser declared an emergency and announced that cooling facilities would be available all across the District.
When feasible, Bowser’s office advises staying indoors, keeping an eye on neighbors who may be at risk, consuming lots of hydrating fluids, and bringing dogs inside after the early morning hours.
Once the morning rain stops, Wednesday will be hot and mostly sunny.
