A horrific car accident claimed the life of Bridget Kelly McDermott, 42, of Westford, Massachusetts, on October 14, 2023. She was a devoted wife and mother, kind daughter and sister, wonderful aunt, proud dog parent, devoted friend, accomplished business leader, athlete, and outstanding person. We shall honour her life and legacy in this article and recognize her accomplishments and efforts.

Who Was Bridget McDermott?

On April 9, 1981, Mary and Kevin McDermott welcomed a daughter named Bridget. She was born on the same day as her father and was given the name of her paternal grandmother. She grew raised in Billerica, Massachusetts, with her brother Kevin, who served as both her childhood playmate and adult confidant.

They were all very close and had lots of amazing moments together, especially at York Beach in Maine. Her relatives were her first friends, and they remained close to her throughout her childhood.

In 1999, Bridget earned her diploma from Billerica Memorial High School, where she excelled in volleyball, basketball, and softball. When she was young, she made her longtime best friends in Billerica at school and through youth sports. Bridget thought of her circle of Billerica friends as her sisters.

Bridget studied political science with a minor in business at Villanova University. While attending Villanova, she met her husband Mark and developed a lot more lifetime friends. They worked as a cohesive unit to bring out the best in one another. They travelled together and shared many exciting adventures together.

At Boston’s Suffolk University School of Law, Bridget received a J.D. Before joining BAE Systems in Nashua, New Hampshire, where she had been for more than 15 years, she originally worked as a practising lawyer.

Bridget was a reputable, creative, and trustworthy leader at BAE Systems. She had a number of jobs in the legal division, including director of contracts and senior counsel. The New Hampshire Business Review just gave Bridget the 2023 Outstanding Women in Business Award.

She received recognition for her outstanding leadership qualities, career achievements, commitment to the community, and mentoring. She took great delight in using her influence to advance other working-class women.

She had a strong love for coaching young professionals, especially female coworkers in the defence sector. Many people who looked up to her as a role model were forever changed by her.

How Did Bridget McDermott Balance Work and Family?

Bridget married Mark on November 11, 2008. They adopted their beloved dog Gus shortly after their wedding. They were overjoyed when their daughter Charlotte was born on June 6, 2014. Charlotte was the light of Bridget’s life.

Bridget coached Charlotte’s youth basketball team and they could often be found laughing and playing games together. Bridget was vibrant. She smiled often and laughed easily. She was clever and funny.

Bridget fiercely loved her family and was steadfastly loyal to those she loved. She was also a music lover who attended live music shows whenever she had the chance. Bridget was a devoted Boston sports fan and never missed a chance to pick Villanova in the Final Four in every year’s NCAA tournament.

On October 14, 2023, a terrible car accident claimed Bridget’s life. When she struck head-on with another vehicle being driven by Jamal Brathwaite, who also perished at the scene, she was travelling the wrong way on Interstate 95 in Lexington. The State Police are still looking into what caused the accident.

Bridget’s death has left a huge void in the hearts of many people who loved her dearly. She will be remembered as a force of nature who lived every moment to the fullest. She will be missed by her husband Mark; daughter Charlotte; parents Kevin and Mary; brother Kevin; sister-in-law Kelly; nieces Kaitlyn and Keira; dog Gus; extended family; friends; colleagues; mentees; and everyone whose life she touched.

On Friday, October 20, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., family and friends are welcome to come together and remember Bridget at the Badger Funeral Home, located at 347 King Street in LITTLETON, Massachusetts.

At 466 Boston Road in Billerica, Massachusetts, St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish-St. Theresa Church will have her funeral mass on Saturday, October 21 at 10:00 a.m. Following, there will be a burial in Pine Grove Cemetery in Westford, Massachusetts.
