When Will Season 4 of Ted Lasso Premiere on Netflix? Is a Spin-off Starring Ted Lasso in the Works?

Season 3 ends with an emotional farewell tour of AFC Richmond as Jason Sudeikis’ Ted Lasso prepares to return to his son Henry. The episode is titled after a song from The Sound of Music. In the meantime, Roy (Brett Goldstein) steps in for Ted, aided by Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) and Nate (Nick Mohammed) as they patch the torn “Believe” sign back together.

The three-season run of Jason and Brendan’s AppleTV+ comedy, which follows an American football coach who moves to England, was always the goal. The show’s positive response and widespread critical acclaim (11 Emmys!). Season three seems to be the show’s final chapter, but fans are still wondering if that means the end of Ted Lasso for good.

When Will Season 4 of Ted Lasso Premiere on Netflix?

After the conclusion of Season 3 on May 31, 2023, there are currently no plans to produce a Season 4.

Due to its popularity and critical praise, Season 2 of the show is eagerly awaited. Nonetheless, a fourth season of Ted Lasso has not been officially approved, and it seems unlikely that this will ever happen.

Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis has spoken out about the show’s three-season trajectory. After getting AFC Richmond back on track, Ted decided to move back in with his son, marking the end of his narrative. Sudeikis stated on the Fly on the Wall podcast with Dana Carvey and David Spade:

β€œThe story is done. It sounds like such a political answer, but it’s the truth. We only conceived these three [seasons], then this thing became this big old thing.”

That means there won’t be any more Ted Lasso episodes anytime soon. However, a spinoff may develop down the road. There’s no doubt that several of the recurring supporting cast members might make a comeback after becoming fan favorites over the course of the show’s three seasons. Brendan Hunt, star of and co-creator of the show Coach Beard, told Consequence in an earlier interview:

“Yes. There’s definitely room for another arc after this.”

Coach Beard, who decided to remain in London at the end of Season 3, could be the protagonist of this potential new story arc. He and the rest of the original cast might come back for more to illustrate how far AFC Richmond has come without Ted Lasso. It’s a spinoff, so don’t expect the same name as the original “Ted Lasso.” As a result, even if a spinoff is produced, Season 4 won’t exist in the traditional sense.

Nick Mohammed as Nathan Shelley, Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent, Juno Temple as Keeley Jones, Phil Dunster as Jamie Tartt, and Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca Welton round out the cast.

Though it’s pure conjecture at this time, it appears that the AFC Richmond cast will survive in some capacity. Roy, Coach Beard, and Nate Shelley (Nick Mohammed) are ready to take on their own series now that Ted has returned to Kansas. In fact, it appears that is precisely what the streamer wants viewers to believe. Apple TV tweeted a snapshot of the three characters one week after the series finale aired with the phrase “Smells like potential.”

Yet, hold your horses: Mohammed told Us Weekly that he was just as taken aback by the post as everyone else. “I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a break and things continue to some degree, whether it’s a film [or] whether it’s a new show with a different title with certain characters,” he stated on June 14, 2023.

In the series finale, Keeley Jones (Juno Temple) proposes to Rebecca a business opportunity involving a women’s soccer club, which may lead to a spin-off similar to the one involving Roy, Beard, and Nate.

AFC Richmond’s future on Apple TV remains uncertain, but speculations of a Season 4 or spinoff of Ted Lasso seem set to persist in the meantime.
