With its nostalgic exploration of coming-of-age and young love, candid portrayal of LGBTQ+ relationships and issues, and engaging storytelling and characters, the Netflix series Heartstopper, based on Alice Oseman’s webcomics of the same name, has garnered a strong following from adults as well.
Season 1 of Heartstopper has a 96% and Season 2 has a 98% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, so while it may not have as many viewers as some of the streaming giant’s other big hits, it still has a dedicated fan base.
The question, though, is whether or not Heartstopper will return for a third season. This is everything we know at this time.
When will Heartstopper Return for a Third Season?
Yes! Heartstopper’s third season renewal was previously announced. In fact, we already know the name of the premiere episode of season three: “Love.”
In Season 3 of Heartstopper, What Will Happen?
Oseman dropped a hint about season three by using the word “love” alone.
Oseman has remained tight-lipped on the future of the program, however, it has been established that Ben (Sebastian Croft) will not be returning for Season 3.
People who have been reading the comics will already know what’s going to happen, but Oseman didn’t want to give anything away for those who hadn’t. I feel like [the end of Season 2] just sets up that discussion for the following season. Charlie’s feelings for Nick are well-documented, and I think it’s safe to assume that Nick feels the same way. The only question is when and how they’ll tell each other.
Who will be on Heartstopper Season 3?
Season 3 of Heartstopper will see the return of the whole original cast.
- Joe Locke as Charlie
- Kit Connor as Nick
- Yasmin Finney as Elle
- William Gao as Tao
- Corinna Brown as Tara
- Kizzy Edgell as Darcy
- Tobie Donovan as Isaac
- Rhea Norwood as Imogen
- Olivia Colman as Sarah
- Jenny Walser as Tori
- Leila Khan as Sahar
However, Ben (Sebastian Croft) will not be appearing in any further episodes. The reason for this is that Ben doesn’t appear in any of the books beyond Volume 1, but Oseman believed it was necessary to have him in Season 2 anyhow.
Speaking to Tudum, she explained: “As Season 2 begins to unpack the trauma that Charlie carries with him due to his toxic relationship with Ben and the bullying he has faced in the past, I felt Ben’s presence was necessary to properly address those topics.”
As Oseman put it, “We were in constant debate about finding the line between Ben being unrealistically demonic and too sympathetic. I feel we found that line and I am so proud and honored that Sebastian has been a part of Heartstopper. I know that he’ll go on to do incredible things, and I will be cheering from the sidelines all the way.”
When information on the cast becomes available, we will post it here.
