Frogs Jump Hops 8-3 In Series Opener (Latest News)

Tuesday at Everett Memorial Stadium, the Everett Aquasox defeated the Hillsboro Hops 8-3, breaking open a close game with a four-run eighth inning. This was the Frogs' 12th straight series victory against the Hops since May 18th.

Bryan Woo, a Sox starter who recently moved up from Modesto in the Cal League and was making his High-A debut, threw five good innings, giving up four hits, one run, no walks, and five strikeouts while striking out five.

Hillsboro scored in the top of the fourth inning, down 4-0, on a single by Deyvison De Los Santos with one out, a wild pitch, and an RBI single by Caleb Roberts.

Leading off the top of the seventh inning in his subsequent at-bat, Roberts hit a single home run to reduce the score to 4-2. Lyle Lin's RBI groundout made it a one-run game after Wilder Patino and Cam Coursey had back-to-back singles with one remaining.

In the ninth, another chance for the Hops was lost. Kyle Hill, an Everett relief pitcher, hit A.J. Vukovich with a breaking ball with one out, and Roberts took a walk.

But in Everett, it's only 357 feet to center field in a straight line, and his fly ball traveled about 375 feet. That brought the score to 6-3, and the Sox later in the inning scored two more runs on RBI doubles from David Sheaffer and Trent Tinglestad.

Hillsboro lost 40-55 overall and 11-20 in the second half. Everett is 48-48 overall and 17-14 this season. At 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday, the series resumes.
