Class Aaa State Legion Tournament: Medford, Hillsboro, Salem Withnell Take First-round Wins (Latest News)

The Medford Mustangs defeated the Beaverton Sockeyes 4-3 in a walk-off victory in the opening round of the Class AAA state championship on Saturday at Bill Gray Legion Stadium at Champion Car Wash Field.

To start the bottom of the seventh inning against Beaverton reliever Alex Elliott, the Mustangs (33-7) had a full set of bases.

The Sockeyes' defense made a crucial play to make the first out of the inning with a forceout at home plate, but they were unable to hold off the Mustangs to send the game into extra innings.

For Medford, who ended with nine hits overall, Cameron Sewell went 3-for-4. Ezra Vice had a 2-for-4 Sockeyes performance (14-12).

With one out in the bottom of the eighth inning, Cris Rogers delivered an RBI walk-off single to give the Dodgers the victory over Eugene.

The Post 6 Barbers had to defeat the Post 58 Crushers with a late comeback after jumping out to an early 5-2 lead.

After scoring four runs in the fifth and another in the sixth, the Crushers (17-21) came back to win 7-5. In the fifth, Sawyer Enderle hit a solo home run to spark the rally.
