Editorial Standards

  • Sourcing: We name our sources and link to public documents. We use anonymous sources only when there is no other way to report something important, and the editor must know who they are.
  • Accuracy: An arrest or a charge is not a conviction. We say “accused” or “charged” until a court decides, and we follow cases to their outcome when we can.
  • Fairness: We contact people and organizations described in a negative way and give them a chance to respond.
  • Independence: We do not accept payment for news coverage. If we ever publish sponsored content, it will be clearly labeled.
  • Images: Photos are credited. Illustrative images are labeled as illustrative.
  • AI use: We use AI tools to help with research and drafting. Every story is checked against primary sources and reviewed by an editor before publication. AI is never used to invent quotes, sources or images of real events.
