Kristina Navarro-Krupka, the late Athletic Director of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, was a respected figure known for her dedication to sports administration and education.
She completed her master’s and doctorate degrees in sports administration and educational leadership, respectively, after receiving degrees in business administration and sports management, having been born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin.
Throughout her career, Kristina held positions at universities like Rutgers University, demonstrating her dedication to the advancement of leaders. In addition to her career accomplishments, she loved to ride mountain bikes and was instrumental in organizing the UW-Platteville sports administration program.
Born in Madison, Wisconsin on November 29, 1983, Dr. Kristina Marie Navarro-Krupka passed away on November 18, 2023, at the age of 39, along with Karina Maria Krupka, her unborn daughter. Kristina was an accomplished scholar and a loving mother.
Her life was characterized by her strong desire for adventure and her moral leadership. She was born to Michael and Karen Meissen, and she did well in school, graduating from both the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
After marrying Nick Krupka in 2019, Kristina went on to hold leadership positions at several universities before landing her current job as the assistant chancellor and director of athletics at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. A passionate cyclist and athlete, Kristina enjoyed life’s journeys and found happiness in the mountains and on bike trails.
Kristina’s kindness won her the nickname “fun aunt” because of her warm disposition, which endeared her to everyone who knew her. Reminiscent of her positive influence on education, sports, and inclusivity, Kristina was survived by her spouse, father, siblings, and grandparents.

The 39-year-old athletic director at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, Kristina Navarro-Krupka, unexpectedly passed away from complications related to her pregnancy. On November 20, 2023, the university’s official website shared the sad news. For more than four years, Dr. Navarro-Krupka was the athletic director in addition to being the assistant chancellor.
On its official Facebook page, the University of Wisconsin–Platteville Athletics expressed their profound sadness. They described Kristina as an enthusiastic supporter of the university, particularly for the student-athletes, coaches, and athletic staff. The post expressed deep sorrow to Kristina’s loved ones, particularly her spouse Nick, and to everyone she had impacted.

Numerous people sent their condolences, and the university community expressed shock and sadness. Her hometown of Madison’s Roselawn Memorial Park served as the site of her burial after her funeral mass at St. Dennis Catholic Church.
