According to the Coos Forest Protective Association, a new wildfire has started in southwest Oregon and is producing a significant amount of smoke.
The Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, south of Agness and close to the settlement of Oak Flat in Curry County, is where the smoke column, which is visible from Grants Pass to Gold Beach, is currently burning.
The Flat Fire, as it is known, is thought to be 120 acres in size.
Firefighters from various agencies “are working to stop the fire,” according to officials.
Flat Fire Threatens Structures
“Fire is approximately 120 acres burning in the old fire scar from 2018,” Coos FPA said in a Facebook post.
Near the Illinois and Rogue Rivers, Oak Flat is a tiny village that’s roughly an hour’s drive from Gold Beach. The Oak Flat Campground is where the fire first started.
Starting on Sunday, a type 2 team will take over control of the fire.

“Many more resources are on order and on their way. According to a press release from the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, “all resources on the scene will continue to aggressively respond.”
