After a shocking event on Monday night, the Maine State Police say they caught a guy from South Portland and charged him with two counts of murder. At 8:28 p.m., a 24-year-old man named Marcel Lagrange Jr. is said to have started shooting near the corner of Maine Street and Bridge Street in Westbrook. The terrible accident killed two people, and the whole town is sad.
When the cops showed up, they saw Lagrange shoot a woman near a parked car. As the suspect ran down Main Street, the police moved quickly and gave chase. During this run, Lagrange hurt a man from Westbrook who was 75 years old. The man was taken to Maine Medical Center to get care for his minor injuries. Brittney Cockrell was shot outside the car. She is 37 years old and lives in Westbrook.
Michael Hayter, who lived in Westbrook and was 41 years old, was found dead in the car. The cops still don’t know why the shooting happened because they haven’t found any connection between the shooter and those who were shot.

When the accident happened, the couple’s two kids, a boy who was 11 and a girl who was 7, were in the car. Somehow, neither one of them got hurt. Even though bad things have happened, this bright spot gives the community hope.
Lagrange was finally caught when brave people in the area moved quickly to stop him. The heroes from the area tackled him and took his gun until the cops arrived and arrested him. Lagrange was then taken to the Cumberland County Jail, where he was held without bail.
