Early on Monday, June 4, a man was stabbed to death in Southeast D.C., prompting an investigation by police.
After receiving a report of a stabbing just before midnight, MPD officers rushed to the area of Halley Terrace Southeast and South Capitol Street Southeast. A male with a stab wound was discovered at the scene.

Authorities rushed to the scene and began CPR, but the person was pronounced dead. Later reports specified that the man was 45-year-old Ft. Washington, Maryland native Damien Thompson.
Michael Caldwell, 28, was apprehended by cops in Southeast D.C. shortly after the stabbing was reported. Caldwell has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder with a weapon.
On Friday, June 2, 2023, just before the start of the weekend, MPD reported 94 homicides, a 15% rise from the previous year. By the same time in 2022, 82 murders had been solved.
