The BC Sheriff’s Office sent a marine deputy, a patrol officer, and search and rescue personnel to the scene. About a quarter of a mile north of the park’s main boat ramp was where the camp was set up. When they got there, they did a boat search of the area near the coast.

The hillside surrounding the camp was searched in a grid pattern by ground troops. The area was steep and covered with bushes, and it had a number of shallow gorges. Campmates of Nguyen’s aided in the ground search.
