On Wednesday(17 May 2023), authorities announced that they had fined and suspended the license of a minor driver who had been recorded speeding 176 mph on Interstate 5 south of Portland the previous day.
After midnight on Wednesday, Washington County sheriff’s deputies clocked 19-year-old Tualatin resident Milo Schneider driving nearly treble the speed limit on southbound I-5, according to Sergeant Danny DiPietro.
The Oregonian tweeted: Oregon driver records 176 mph on I-5, cops say; ‘Never seen a speed this high’.

“In my 15-year career, I’ve never seen a speed this high anywhere,” DiPietro said, describing the leadfoot behavior as extremely unsafe.
“When you’re going at that speed, you’re going to hit something and someone’s going to die,” he continued.
As per DiPietro, Schneider was arrested and put into the county jail on a single count of careless driving. A $1,100 fine and license suspension for six months awaits anyone who exceeds 100 miles per hour.
The sheriff’s office claims, a patrol deputy measured the speed of a blue 2016 BMW M3 on Interstate 5 near Oregon 217 and then released a description of the sedan.
When another deputy saw the sedan exit the freeway at Nyberg Street, they “pinned” the sports car at the off-ramp to keep the driver from fleeing. “You might be able to outrun our cars, but you’re never going to outrun our radios,” DiPietro warned.
