After many break-ins before dawn on NE Sandy Boulevard, a small business in Portland is warning other establishments to be on the lookout.
Airlink, a local electronics retailer, is one of three businesses that appear to have been targeted, according to the Portland Police Department. The shop’s owner, Minh Le, has recently noticed an increase in shoplifting.
βThey are like an octopus,β he described. βThey have more hands than we have.β Two armed with flashlights are seen on surveillance footage looking through his shelves. Le claims he learned about the break-in from the neighboring Pho restaurant when he arrived.
He emphasized that “for a small business,” “every dime counts.” It’s very popular. Le estimates that the incident occurred at 5 a.m. TheΒ CCTV footage shows the intruders scouring the establishment for valuables.
βTheyβre making sure that weβre not hiding anything, and if we were to hide anything, theyβd just take them. I get used to it because weβve been in business for over 15 years.β

Since launching, Le claims this is the eighth time his business has been broken into. But he says this is one of the worst times. At first look, he thinks the loss is around $10,000 worth of uninsured goods, but he clarifies, “not because I didn’t want to buy insurance.”
Le claims that insurance companies regularly refuse to cover phone and electronics retailers because of the considerable danger they pose. “There’s a lot of burglaries, thefts, and other criminal activity.”
Le prays that one of the thieves will be recognized and apprehendedΒ or that the incident will garner enough media attention to deter the thieves from targeting other small businesses like his.
