Since March 2023, Amtrak has been actively working on the B&P Tunnel Replacement Program. New concrete ties will replace the old wooden ones, and new rail and drainage systems will be installed.
Meanwhile, Amtrak has published images of what the finished tunnel will look like. The B&P Tunnel is the oldest tunnel on Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor, dating back over 150 years and linking Baltimore and Washington, DC.
Here is what you need to know now about recent events in Washington State:
- An 8-year-old’s Statement Led to Insurance Coverage in Washington State for Hearing Aids.
- Mental Health Facilities in Washington State Are in the Process of Being Updated.
- Washington Republican Gubernatorial Candidates Are Bullish.
Amtrak will be able to run high-speed trains on all four tracks in the tunnel once the planned Frederick Douglass Tunnel is built to replace the current aging structure.
The Federal-State Partnership for the State of Good Repair Program awarded funding for this project for Fiscal Year 2019.
