High Stakes, High Speeds: Portland Police Bureau Launches Mission Against Street Racing

Portland Police Bureau Launches Mission Against Street Racing

The North Precinct of the Portland Police Bureau did a task on illegal street racing and street takeovers from the evening of April 30, 2023, to the early hours of May 1, 2023.

With the help of the Air Support Unit, K9 officers, and past members of the Traffic Division, North Precinct officers, supervisors, and command worked together to catch a group involved in illegal street racing and other traffic-related crimes in North Portland.

A press release by the Portland Police Bureau stated that five people were taken into custody, 25 were ticketed for driving violations and two cars were towed. Twenty to thirty cars got away from the police.

As time and money allow, plans are made for future trips throughout the summer. Most of the time, these missions will not be announced ahead of time.

Participants are told that if they participate in illegal street racing or takeovers, they could be arrested, have their cars towed, or get traffic tickets. These missions aim to stop people from doing these illegal and risky things, often leading to car accidents, shootings, and other crimes.
