Portland Firefighters Respond to Devastating Fire at Vacant Tavern

Firefighters were called to battle a fire at a closed bar in North Portland on Wednesday night, 19 April 2023. A call was received at around 7:30 o’clock.

The Barn Tavern, located at 7421 North Denver Ave., was on fire.

According to Portland firefighters, the building was on their β€œunsafe building list” and there have been eight fires at the location in the last 12 months.

According to Kattu.com, Rick Graves,Β  a spokesman for Portland Fire & Rescue, “Even though we have a history with it, we know it is a highly dangerous building, and it posed perilous conditions for first responders.”

Because of the dangerous circumstances, firefighters took a defensive attitude against the fire and poured water onto the building from above as flames devoured the structure.

Although it was not immediately clear if anyone was there at the time of the incident, Graves noted that there had previously been occupants.

Even though it’s boarded up, he noted, “this is an area that has had high habitation β€” occupancy rate is not invisible.”

In the end, Portland firefighters were able to enter the building in certain areas by knocking down walls and applying high-pressure water from fire hoses. At around 10:00 p.m., it was under control.

Due to the proximity of the flames to the power lines, the area’s electricity was turned off for around 90 minutes.

Over 40 firefighters were on the site of the fire at one time.

Recently, Portland Fire & Rescue released a photo of a house that exploded in the Northwest Portland hills on Friday, March 30, 2023.
