Counties in Southern Oregon Get Aid for Emergencies and Schooling Funds

Jackson, Josephine, Klamath, and Curry counties are among the 18 in western Oregon that will share $25.6 million in funding from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

A BLM press statement said that the money originated from timber harvest and authorized monies and was awarded as part of the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act. They’ll be used to support municipal operations like police and schools.

“Each county receives a payment based on the amount of Oregon and California Revested Lands in that county,” the announcement said. The BLM oversees these mixed-use woods to ensure steady wood supplies.
