Son Accused of K!lling Mother Two Days After Jail Release In Oregon

A 45-year-old man was caught Saturday night,15 April 2023, two days after he got out of the Benton County jail, on suspicion of k!lling his mother by hitting and cutting her in her Albany home.

Police say they found Suzanne Smith, 67, dead in her home on Del Rio Avenue near Moraga Avenue at about 9:30 p.m. Michael A. Flitcroft is charged with one count of second-degree murder. Officers caught Flitcroft, who didn’t live with his parents, on the street outside the house.

Flitcroft’s dad, Stewart Smith, called 911, but Albany Police Lt. Buck Pearce said that dispatchers only heard a “open line” and sounds of a fight.

Flitcroft is also charged with fourth-degree assault and illegal use of a weapon because, according to the officer, he hurt Stewart Smith and showed him a knife.

Flitcroft has been arrested 11 times since 2010 and is listed as a sex offender, according to court records. He went to the Oregon State Hospital for mental health care in 2022, where court papers show he was diagnosed with insanity.

Recently happens, Malheur County District Attorney Dave Goldthorpe said in a news statement that 43-year-old Nyssa Police Department Reserve Officer Joseph Johnson was shot and k!lled on Saturday, April 15, around 8:30 p.m. The officer had been chasing a car that finally stopped, which is when Johnson was killed.

Pearce said that police hadn’t found a possible reason for the killing yet and are still looking into what Flitcroft has been doing since he got out of jail on April 13 after being charged with disorderly conduct and stalking.
