Landslide Shuts Down Northbound I-5 in Washington

A landslide in southwest Washington state on Monday afternoon, 10 April 2023, blocked and shut down the northbound lanes of Interstate 5.

Trooper Will Finn of the Washington State Patrol said on Twitter that at least two cars got stuck in debris that fell onto the highway Monday afternoon near Woodland.

Finn’s Twitter photos seemed to show that the front end of a pickup truck was damaged and stuck in the slide. It looks like tree branches, mud, and other things came from above a hill. There were no reports of injuries.

The state Department of Transportation said drivers would be sent to the Woodland exit at milepost 22.

As of 4:30 p.m., no one knew when the lanes would open again, and officials asked people to stay away from the area.

The state Department of Transportation said a two-football-field-long landslide still threatens drivers on I-84 near Ontario, about 17 miles northwest of the Oregon border.
