A 13-Year-Old Boy Stabbed at Rieke Elementary School In Portland

Witnesses and police say someone tried to rob a 13-year-old boy and stab him outside Rieke Elementary School. The person then pointed a gun at a group of students and ran away.

At 5:13 p.m., police in the Hillsdale neighborhood of Portland was called to a school on Southwest Vermont Street.

Portland fire paramedics treated the boy’s non-life-threatening stab wound to his side on the front steps leading to the elementary school. An ambulance then took him to a local hospital as a group of middle school students gathered on the sidewalk.

Several kids in middle school were crying because of what had happened.

According to witnesses, two older teens tried to take the victim’s money while he was trying to split a $20 bill into two $10 accounts with another person.

One stabbed him, and the other pointed a gun at the crowd. Then, witnesses told police the two suspects ran out of the school and went south on Southwest 13th Avenue.

Sgt. Kevin Allen said that two teens were stopped and held in the 1400 block of Southwest Bertha Blvd. so that detectives could talk to them. It was the latest attack near a school in Portland.

Portland Police shared a press release via Twitter, linked below.

Since October, there have been shootings outside Portland’s Jefferson, Cleveland, and Franklin high schools and in a park next to Reynolds High School in Troutdale. All of the shootings near Portland schools left young people with minor injuries.

In the Reynolds case, a 16-year-old student was arrested for allegedly being involved in the shooting during lunch and was seen by many outside students. In early January, shots were fired outside Franklin on a Saturday night during a Portland Interscholastic League basketball tournament. One person was hurt only slightly.

Midway through January, Portland Superintendent Guadalupe Guerrero said that the idea of putting police back on the nine high school campuses was being talked about, but no steps have been taken yet.

In June 2020, school resource officers will no longer be at the school district’s nine city high schools and feeder schools.
