The tax filing deadline is rapidly approaching, so it’s in your best interest to have everything in order as soon as possible. Just 14 days remain before the April 18 filing deadline for federal and state taxes. The deadline for filing taxes in Oregon is April 17, and over a million people have yet to do so.
There have been over 1.1 million returns submitted in Oregon and over 820,000 refunds paid out. According to Chris Wytoski of the Oregon Department of Revenue, filing online is the quickest method to get a refund.
“Before we had the system we have now, we would process a return in 20 to 40 days, sometimes even six months,” Wytoski said. “Now you’re going to see something in nine days or less. Except during tax season, you could take as long as six weeks to get processed.”

You may count on receiving lesser reimbursements this year. Government reimbursements total $172 billion so far. That’s nearly a nine percent drop from the same period last year. The typical refund decreased as well, from $3,200 to $2,900.
The expiration of policies such as the Expanded Child Credit implemented during the epidemic may be to blame for the decline.
