Travis Ash, the sheriff of Baker County, and Lt. Downing both saw the crash. They weren’t working, so they went fishing on the Snake River. Just before 10 a.m., they said they heard an airplane engine and a “bang.” When they looked up, the plane was going down.

They immediately called for help and went to a ridge above the Idaho Power complex to look for the crash site. People from the public and employees of Idaho Power helped in the search.

They found the wreckage spread over a large area, and it didn’t take them long to figure out that there were no survivors.

Richards and Tennant had left the Caldwell Airport on Sunday morning and were headed for Lewiston.

The Baker County Sheriff’s Office said the plane was a Cirrus SR-22, one of the most popular piston planes on the market.

National Transportation Safety Board investigators will arrive on Monday to investigate what happened.
