Portland Fire & Rescue released a photo of a house that exploded in the Northwest Portland hills on Friday, March 30, 2023.
When firefighters from both Portland and Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue got to the house on Northwest Burkhardt Court, they found one house completely on fire and the flames spreading to a second house nearby.
The firefighters were able to keep the fire to just two homes. Due to the size of the fire and the number of homes that were affected, a second alarm was called, which brought more help to the scene. Large amounts of water were sprayed from above with ladder trucks.

According to Portland Fire & Rescue, the West Hills are hard for fire crews because of the narrow, winding roads, steep hills, and large homes often built on hillsides.

In neither house did crews find any fire victims, and no firefighters were hurt. The cause of the fire is being looked into by fire investigators.
