Winter Storm Warning: Heavy Snow Expected to Hit Cascades Region This Weekend

The snowy weather this week for spring break has been great for skiers. But you must be flexible if you’re going over mountain passes this weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for the upper slopes of the Cascades from 5 p.m. Friday to 3 p.m. Sunday. La Pine, Sunriver, and eastern Douglas County, over 3,000 feet, could get 10 to 20 inches of snow.

Even more, snow is expected over the McKenzie and Willamette passes, with 19 to 43 inches possible and winds reaching up to 40 miles per hour.

David Bishop works for the National Weather Service as a meteorologist. He told KLCC, β€œThese values, while very high, especially for this time of year, given the pattern that’s coming down and is forecasted to impact the area, are not far-fetched.”

Bishop said that the best thing to do is avoid dangerous travel times. If you can’t do that, check TripCheck.com to see if any roads are closed or need chains.
